ScienceDaily (2008-06-05) — Alcohol cuts the risk of developing rheumatoid arthritis by up to 50 percent, reveals new research. And the more alcohol was consumed, the lower the risk of rheumatoid arthritis. Among those who drank regularly, the quarter with the highest consumption were up to 50% less likely to develop the disease compared with the half who drank the least. The effect was the same for both men and women.
It’s hard to believe, that the researchers who did this study had their wits about them.
The study indicates no particular limit to alcohol consumption, in order to avoid rheumatoid arthritis. You may manage to avoid RA if you drink alcohol, but will you avoid all the other possible consequences, such as cardiovascular disease, stroke, osteoporosis, liver damage, pancreatic disease, and many other possible diseases?
These researchers are not saying, drink a small glass of wine a day to avoid RA, they are saying the more you drink of alcohol, no particular type mentioned, the more likely you are to avoid Rheumatoid Arthritis.
I know of two instances, close to home, where alcohol was consumed every day, and both these people have very severe rheumatoid arthritis.
