Gout Natural Cure
Gout,is the result of deposition of urate crystals in connective tissues as a result of
faulty metabolism causing a build up of high urate levels in the blood. It affects peripheral joints, causes intense
pain, redness and swelling, and more often than not involves the metatarsophalangeal joint of the big toe.The
instep, ankle, knee, wrist and elbow are common sites.
When the levels of uric acid go beyond a certain concentration urate crystals are formed and
deposited in synovial fluid and with the progression of gout, urate crystals form in subcutaneous tissues and these
formations of small white nodules or tophi are visible through the skin.

There is another type of gout known as pseudo gout which is due to the formation of calcium
phosphate dehydrate crystals. Both types have the same effect.
The cause of the metabolic defect is unknown, although some researchers consider gout to be an
inherited enzymatic defect.
It's onset can be sudden, and may be triggered by overindulgence in food or alcohol.Other factors
may be involved in the initial onset, minor trauma, emotional stress, infection, surgery,or vascular occulsion.
Kidney function plays a role in the pathology of gout because most uric acid is eliminated through
the kidneys.Renal stones are many times more common in people with primary gout, and large stones can cause
progressive renal failure.
Medically the condition may be treated with colchicine, indomethacin and phenylbutazone.
Hydrocortisone may be injected into the joint to relieve the pain. The patient is given a low purine diet to
follow,and high fluid intake.
Pseudogout: Most people with this condition have no evidence of underlying disease, however a
metabolic disorder may be found in some people eg. hyperthyroidism, hyperparathyroidism,or hemochromatosis.
So what are purines? They occur as end products in the digestion of certain proteins, some are
synthesized in the body. They can be found in certain medications, anchovies, sardines, sweetbreads, liver,
kidneys, legumes and poultry. The foods lowest in purines include vegetables, eggs, fruit, cheese, and nuts.

It used to be known as a rich man's disease, probably because being wealthy allowed for over
consumption of rich foods and alcohol, this no longer applies. Even if you are poor you can still
overload on purine rich foods, and so set yourself up for a gouty attack.
Firstly a healthy diet, low in purines, foods .
Fresh organic vegetable juices, carrots, celery, parsley.
Whole grains, seeds, and nuts.
High-fibre foods, and complex carbohydrates.
Raw vegetables and fruits. Why Buy Organic
Fruit and Vegetables?
Vegetable soups.
Wheatgrass has a powerful anti-inflammatory action,
and aids in the reduction of swelling and pain. It's a rich cheap source of vitamins and minerals, even better, you
can grow it yourself and keep a ready supply on hand.
Celery helps eliminate uric acid, either in extract form, or the vegetable itself. Turmeric, a
common ingredient in Indian cooking is a great anti-inflammatory.The curcumin in turmeric stimulates the adrenal
glands to produce cortisone, which relieves inflammation.
Olive leaf tea increases the production of urine, lowering the uric acid levels in the blood, and
increasing the elimination of uric acid.Nettle tea can be taken to relieve uric acid levels, oat tea also has a
diuretic effect.
Eating cherries, has long been recommended by a number of sufferers for
staving off a gout attack, and fresh pineapple relieves inflammmation due to it's bromelian content.
The tissue salts recommended for arthritic complaints are standard, Nat phos 3x
,6x, to break down the uric acid,Ferrum phos 3x,6x, to reduce the inflammation and throbbing pain, Mag
phos 3x,6x, to reduce spasm, and Calc fluor 3x,6x, to prevent calcium build up.
A book by Compton Burnett MD, homeopath, written in the late 19th century has a reference to
the use of cod liver oil as a treatment for gout, and since then cod liver oil has been in and out of fashion as a
treatment for metabolic diseases ever since. Now it's back again, bigger than ever.
Homeopathically treating, but not from a classical approach, Colchium 30 can be an answer to a
prayer for an acute attack, and Benzoic acid 200 for chronic gout with tophi. An homoeopath from the 19th century by
the name of Compton Burnett was known as DR Urtica for his wide and successfull treatment of his gouty patients
with Urtica Urens, more commonly known as Nettle. He writes of his gouty patients, after taking Urtica Urens, about
their passing grit and gravel by the urine, so he came to the conclusion that Urtica Urens eliminated the urates
from the system, and they certainly did, for the gout didn't return.
Herbs for gout : nettle, devil's claw, white willow, and meadowsweet. It is
always best to visit an herbalist to get the very best treatment, self treatment may not give you the best results,
and you may decide that herbs aren't for you because what you took didn't cure you, lack of knowledge would be
the problem in this case, not the herbs.
Stick to a healthy diet, and follow some of the recommended treatments, and you will be able to say
bye to further attacks of gout.
What is a low purine diet? What are Purines?
Purines are components of certain foods that metabolize into uric acid, people who have a faulty
purine metabolism may be predisposed to gout and other arthritic diseases .Eating foods high in purines may trigger
a gout attack, and worse still help to maintain it if the food is a staple part of the diet.
High purine foods :
Organ meats, anchovies sardines canned, meat extracts, broths,
bouillion , salmon canned,
gravies,scallops, herring, roe,yeast, pressed meats,sausages.
Lower in purines:
Asparagus, navy beans, oatmeal, cauliflower, oysters, chicken, peas, crab, salmon ,
eel, ham, tuna fish, kidney beans, lima beans, lobster, mushrooms.
Low purine foods:
Carbonated beverages, chocolate, cocoa, fruit juices, , white bread, crackers,
cornbread, cereals and cereal products, corn, macaroni, noodles, rice, tapioca,
refined wheat, cheese , eggs, fats, fruits ,milk, nuts, sugar, sweets, vegetables of all kinds except those
mentioned.
The above list of low purine foods is certainly not a list to be used as a
reference for a gouty patient to follow.
The ideal diet for a patient with gout would contain very few of the foods on the low
purine list, the diet should contain fresh fruit, vegetables, lots of them, no meat of any kind.
