Avocado-Soybean Unsaponifiable (ASU)

Relieving the Pain of Osteoarthritis

French studies have shown that ASU can not only relieve the pain of osteoarthritis, but it can also stimulate cartilage repair.

Dr Jason Theodosakis, MD says of ASU:

Although there may be other substances which stimulate collagen production, not all are capable of producing the 4 essential types of collagen necessary for joint repair. ASU also decreases joint inflammation and pain.ASU is made up of one third avocado oil, and two thirds of soybean oil but only the small unsaponified part of both these oils. The term unsaponified refers to a substance  which cannot form soap, it is this mix which appears to interfere with the joint destruction, and increase collagen production.Eating avocado and soybean products does not have the same effect as taking ASU supplement.  The results of four randomised double blind studies with people who had osteoarthritis of either kneee or hip and were using NSAID for pain control. It was found that 3 of the trials showed positive results for pain relief using ASU with a NSAID. The fourth trial involved only people who had osteoarthritis of the hip, no relief for pain or increased mobility was reported, and there was no decrease in the use of NSAIDs in this group.
